吉田 英一は1993年および1996年に東京大学大学院工学系研究科で精密機械工学の修士号およびh博士号を取得しました。1996年に旧機械工学研究所に入所し、その後、産業技術総合研究所(産総研)に再編されました。2004年から2008年まで、フランス・トゥールーズのLAAS-CNRSにあるAIST / IS-CNRS / ST2I合同フランス・日本ロボット研究所(JRL)の共同ディレクターを務めました。2009年以降、つくばのCNRS-AIST JRL(Joint Robotics Laboratory),IRLの共同ディレクターを務め、2017年以降はディレクターに任命されています。また、2015年から2018年には知能システム研究部門(IS-AIST)の副部門長を務め、2018年から2020年には産総研情報・人間工学領域の研究企画室長を務めました。現在、産総研インダストリアルCPS研究センターの副センター長および豊田自動織機-産総研 アドバンスト・ロジスティクス連携研究ラボの副ラボ長を務めています。
