Currently, information on genomics, gene expression mechanisms, and the structure-function relationship of proteins is being elucidated. Based on this knowledge, we are becoming increasingly able to control the biology. A new bioprocess system has been developed by the Bio-System Group to design nucleic acids, genes, genomes, and proteins based on current biological information.
In addition, we are studying social insects, such as ants and aphids, to understand their specific and highly sophisticated biological functions that have been acquired through the evolutionary courses to survive various environmental conditions. Our research objectives are not only to gain a deep understanding of basic biological aspects about the insect social systems, but also to discover novel bioactive substances and lead compounds for medical drugs from such unexplored biological resources.
