Dr. Sakae Tsuda, a chief senior researcher of Biomolecular Engineering Research Group, received the Society Award from Japanese Society for Cryobiology and Cryotechnology(JSCC) for excellence of his work regarding "Functional analysis of antifreeze protein toward its practical applications". This society was established in 1959, and Tsuda was awarded as the 8th winner of this prize. More details are shown in the JSCC's website.

Our WEB site is renewed. Molecular Systemds Bioengineering Research Group and a part of previous Synthetic Bioengineering Research Group were merged to form Applied Molecular Microbiology Research Group in AIST Hokkaido. Besides, Biological Substance Engineering Research Group and a part of previous Synthetic Bioengineering Research Group were merged to form new Synthetic Bioengineering Research Group in AIST Tsukuba. Molecular Systems Bioengineering Research Team in Applied Molecular Microbiology Research Group was derived from previous Molecular Systemds Bioengineering Research Group. Antifreeze protein research team was incorporated into Biomolecular Engineering Research Group.

Dr. Takema Fukatsu, the group leader of Symbiotic Evolution and Biological Functions Research Group, was elected to Fellowship in the American Academy of Microbiology. He will be invited to the Meeting at the 113th ASM General Meeting in Denver on Tuesday, May 21 as a new fellow.

Bioproduction Research Institute was established by the combining of research groups in Reseach Institute of Genome-based Biofactory, Institute for Biological Resources and Functions, and Research Institute for Cell Engineering. We are aiming at basic and application research for establishment new biomanufacturing systems. Our research is ranging from reaching useful biological and genetic resources to application of genetic information, proteins, nucleotides and biochemical molecules.
