On May 20, 2024, the “Roadmap for Metrology Standards and Calibration Technologies Supporting B5G/6G,” jointly developed by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) and NMIJ, was released.
The archive of “#AIST Special Open House 2025: ‘Let’s Talk [Research] Love.’,” which was streamed on Niconico Live on August 8, 2025, is now available. Researchers from NMIJ also took part in the program. (in Japanese)
In 1903, the Central Office for Weights and Measures Verification—the predecessor of NMIJ—was established, marking the beginning of modern metrology standards in Japan. 2023 marked its 120th anniversary.
To make the technologies accumulated through our R&D activities widely available and useful across Japan—from industry and academic research to everyday life—we run the NMIJ Measurement Club as a platform for sharing these technologies.
At the 27th General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM) held in 2022, four new SI prefixes were added: Q (quetta) for 1030, R (ronna) for 1027, r (ronto) for 10−27, and q (quecto) for 10−30.
We have published the FY2025 editions of “Overview of the Organizations and Activities under the Metre Convention” and “Overview of the Organization and Activities of the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML).”
