Director's Greetings
Electrons and light are information carriers in information and communication
technology (ICT) to cyber-physical systems (CPS) that support out modern society, and it is extremely important
to utilize their characteristics efficiently. In recent years, due to utilize artificial intelligence (AI)
technologies, the amount of information handled has increased dramatically. Therefore, development of emerging
electronic and photonic technologies enabling energy-saving information processing and transmission is required.
The development of fundamental technologies on optical materials and technology can be a game-changer in various
fields. Electrons and light are used in various ways in the process of manufacturing these innovative
        devices.
As a research department in AIST, Research Institute for Advanced Electronics and Photonics promotes research and development for practical application on emerging electronic and photonic technologies, and their combined technologies for providing novel devices and systems that are unattainable by conventional technologies. We will promote research and development through wide-ranging collaboration both inside and outside AIST, and contribute to the realization of a safe, secure, and sustainable society in the future.
