- Shota Nunomura, Chief Senior Researcher of Innovative Plasma Processing Group, was awarded
"Plasma Material Science Award” by the Center
for Low-temperature Plasma Sciences at Nagoya University, MEXT. His award-winning paper is titled "
Development of real-time and in-situ detection technique for plasma-induced electronic defects".

- Hajime Sakaita, Group Leader of Innovative Plasma Processing Group, received the
Industrial Technology and Environment Bureau Director's Award from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and
Industry, that honors people and organizations who have made outstanding achievements in industrial
standardization activities.
Dr.Sakakita was credited with a leading role in the publication of low-energy
ionized gas haemostasis equipment as a Convenor.

- We have established a new independent research unit "Platform Photonics Research Center"
through the reorganization of Photonics System group, Optics Integration group, and Silicon Photonics group in
the optical information research area.

- Kou Rai, a senior researcher of Silicon Photonics Group received the
Young Researcher Award from the Laser Society of Japan. The award was given to his talk titled
"Hybrid optical functional devices realized by material transfer technique"
at the 40th annual conference of the Laser Society of Japan in 2020.

- Electronics and Photonics Research Institute changes its name to Research Institute for Advanced
Electronics and Photonics. Oxide Electronics Group is also renamed Oxide Electronics and Materials Group.

- Dr. Youfeng Yue of Molecular Assembly Group, and Dr. Yasuo Norikane, Group Leader of Molecular
Assembly Group have developed a simple method for synthesizing single-crystal gold nanomaterials using bilayer
membranes as a template, which is formed by self-assembly of a succinic acid derivative. This finding was
published in "Nature
Communications" on Jan.29 2020.

with Port-Exchanged Mach-Zehnder Switch" written by chief researcher Keijiro Suzuki and others
