Creating a Next-Generation Healthy Society through Biomedical Engineering

The Health and Medical Research Institute promotes an integrated approach spanning basic research, applied research, and social implementation, under the slogan “Technology for Living Healthy to 100 Years.” Our mission is to contribute to extending healthy life expectancy and realizing a sustainable and vibrant society.

Health is an inherently complex challenge that cannot be addressed by a single discipline alone. At our institute, we integrate diverse research fields—including life sciences, molecular-level mechanism analysis, integrated analysis of biological and chemical data, studies of human function and biomaterials, medical device development, applications in food science, and regulatory science—to create new technologies and social value.

Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds, including engineering, agriculture, natural sciences, and robotics, as well as clinical fields such as physical therapy and medical laboratory science. This diversity enables us to seamlessly advance research from the creation of fundamental knowledge to its implementation in society, which is one of our institute’s greatest strengths.

We welcome individuals who aspire to extend healthy life expectancy and contribute their research outcomes to society beyond conventional disciplinary boundaries. We also encourage applications from those with experience in industry, including research and development, product development, and commercialization, as well as those with international research experience at overseas institutions.

We look forward to welcoming researchers who are eager to bridge research and social implementation and to create new social value through interdisciplinary collaboration.

For Early-Career and Mid-Career Researchers Interested in Research at AIST

At AIST, research and development activities are carried out through collaboration among researchers, postdoctoral researchers, technical staff, university and industry researchers, and graduate students.

Many members of our department also hold academic appointments at partner universities and supervise graduate students through cooperative graduate school programs.

We welcome visits from early-career and mid-career researchers who are interested in learning more about our research activities and research environment at AIST.
