It's necessary to reduce the amount of energy consumed at the demand side like vehicles and household appliances and to promote renewable energy in order to make the transition to a low-carbon economy. Energy conservation in daily life must be achieved with safety and environmental acceptability - namely, through "green innovation" that promotes the economic growth and environmental protection together. To attain the propose, our Research Institute of Electrochemical Energy (RIECEN) aims to develop highly efficient power sources for the transportable and stationary use, notably advanced rechargeable batteries (secondary batteries) and fuel cells. We are currently engaged in organized research and development, ranging from basic materials research to systemization investigation.

The Mission of the Research Institute of Electrochemical Energy

The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) has been engaged in Full Research that is concurrent and coherent methodology from basic research to product realization, and has worked to contribute to the government's economic and industrial policies. In RIECEN, we view society and industry as our customers and contribute to them through (1) sowing the seeds of future technological progresses, and (2) offering the provision of industrial standards and evaluation/analysis technology that support the development of the industry. We consider our core competency that is defined as the rational methodology of the new material development by examining fundamental links between processes, structures and properties at multiple scales, from nano to macro, by using systematic experimental, theoretical or computational methods.
