Molecular Function Energy Device Research Group

Research Outline

Expectations and demands for rechargeable batteries have been increasing in recent years in the wake of environmental issues and changes in social situations. Our group is exploring the possibilities of using molecular materials to meet such expectations. For example, we are developing lightweight and high-capacity organic electrode materials to replace the minor metal oxides that are widely used in the current lithium-ion batteries. We are also evaluating the use of newly-design organic solid electrolytes to replace the conventional ceramic solid electrolytes. In addition, we are analyzing the behavior of electrolyte solutions on a molecular level to obtain the best properties of electrode materials and are developing new electrolyte solutions based on analyses to further improve the performance of liquid-based lithium-ion batteries.
Based on these efforts, we aspire to develop new energy devices.
