Advanced Electrochemical Device Research Group

Research Outline

In order to improve the convenience of mobile electronic information devices and clean energy vehicles, it will be necessary to create storage devices with a greater energy density than that of currently used lithium-ion batteries (LIB). Batteries for electric vehicles and large-scale energy storage systems require long period of life (>10–15 years). In order to produce these batteries, more accurate methods to estimate the cycle life and calendar life will be necessary.

Our group is mainly focused on research and development topics like the all solid-sate LIBs (ASSLs) and next-generation ASSLs to meet safety, reliability requirement, and handle greater energy densities. We are developing following important techniques. "Development of new solid electrolyte", "Powder controlling", "Sheet preparing", "Cell manufacturing" and "Analysis". We also target metal polysulfides as active materials for next-generation ASSLs. In addition, we have accumulated a lot of knowledge about the evaluation of LIBs for EV applications, and we are trying to develop "Battery characteristic evaluation technology" and "Life prediction technology" that we have developed to other applications.
