Advanced Electrochemical Device Research Group

Research Outline

Energy storage devices such as lithium-ion secondary batteries (LIB) have contributed greatly to the spread of mobile electronic devices, and in order to meet future social demands such as the further spread of electric vehicles, stationary uses, IoT devices. The development of battery materials and device technologies with superior characteristics will be increasingly required. In addition, as storage batteries are required to have a long service life of more than 10 years for automotive applications and more than 15 years for grid-connected applications, there is an increasing need to develop a method to predict the lifetime of LIBs in a short period of time.
Our group is developing battery materials such as human-friendly sulfide solid electrolytes (SEs), easy-sintering oxide SEs, and high-capacity metal polysulfide electrodes, and also conducting R&D of energy storage devices with energy density, safety, and reliability (all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs), innovative batteries, etc.) by using our materials, resulting in “showing highly valuable advantage and originality” for social applications. We have accumulated a great deal of knowledge regarding the evaluation of LIBs for automotive use, and are working to expand the "battery characterization technology" and "lifetime evaluation technology" that we have developed for other applications.
We are actively working to utilize the "powder control technology," "cell sheet technology," "sintering technology," and "analysis and evaluation technology including operando measurements" and making a collaboration with our partners through joint research and technical consulting, etc.
