My name is Margot Llosa Tanco, I was born in Peru and I am living in Japan with my husband and my five years old son. I obtained the Pharmacy and MSc titles in my country, and my PhD degree in UK. After spending two years in Peru I came to Japan in 1998 to work at AIST-Tohoku (formerly TNIRI) with Dr. T. Suzuki. My research topics include separation and detection of toxic compounds and the separation of hydrogen using palladium membranes.
I like very much Japan; first of all, the people, they are very nice, kind and warn-hearted; second, the country, it has many beautiful and historical places to visit and many festivals through the year to enjoy; and last but not the less, the food that is delicious and healthy, specially I like sushi, soba and all the dishes containing kani (giant crab).

| My son was born in Peru but came to Japan when he was only 3 months old, since then he is attending the hoikuen . Therefore he speaks and behaves as a Japanese boy. Despite of the language barrier I am able to communicate with the people, however it is very difficult for me to read and write kanjis.
If you have the opportunity, please come and visit Peru, it is a very exciting country too.

■ 私の名前はマルゴット・ヨサ・タンコです。私はペルー生まれで、現在は夫と 5 歳の息子と共に日本に住んでいます。私は、母国で薬学と理学の資格を、英国で博士号を取得しました。その後、ペルーで 2 年間過ごしたのち、 1998 年に産総研東北センター（以前は東北工業技術研究所）で鈴木敏重博士と働くために日本に来ました。私は研究テーマとして、有害な化合物の分離・検出ならびにパラジウム膜を用いた水素の分離に取り組んできました。私は日本が大好きです。まず人々。彼らはとても親切で優しく暖かい心の持ち主です。二番目に国として。美しくまた歴史的な場所が沢山あり、一年を通じて楽しめる祭りも数多くあります。最後に（これだけではありませんが）食べ物が美味しくヘルシーで、私は特に寿司、そば、カニ（タラバカニ）が入っている料理が好きです。私の息子はペルーで生まれたのですが、生後 3 ヶ月で日本に来て、以来彼はこちらの保育園に通っています。そのため、彼の話し方や態度は日本人の男の子と変わりません。言葉の壁については、会話のコミュニケーションはまずまず良いのですが、私にとって特に難しいのが漢字を読んだり書いたりすることです。もし機会がありましたら、ぜひペルーを訪れてみてください。ペルーもとても面白い国ですよ。

My name is Selda Murat. I'm from Turkey, senior researcher in the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey in Marmara Research Center. I'm here as a JICA participant in AIST Tohoku. Currently I've been working on selective recovery of arsenic. We are trying to develop novel adsorbents and to fabricate hollow tube form as an alternative of more usable shape. My scientific background is environmental engineering and I'm especially specialized on biological treatment of wastewater. During my research study here, I'm really impressed with the research studies that have been carrying out and especially willingness for the cooperation.
In addition to doing research, I've been enjoying my life in Sendai which is very green, beautiful, and traditional city with many temples, shrines, Japanese style gardens, beautiful nature, special festivals, tranquility and so on...

| I'm turning back soon and I'll be missing Japan, especially my friends who made my life here as an unforgettable experience. I'd like to thank all of them and to my host researcher. I hope to cooperate in the future and meet again. And now it is time to enjoy sakura in Sendai and hanami with the friends.

■ 私はセルダ・ムラトと申します。トルコのマルマラ研究センターで技術研究評議会の主任研究員の職にあり、現在 JICA 研修員として東北センターに滞在しています。本研修課程ではヒ素の選択的回収を課題としており、新規吸着剤の開発並びに実用的な中空吸着管の合成にたずさわっています。私の専攻は環境工学で、特に排水の生物処理を専門にしています。本センターで実施する研究は大変興味深く、特に積極的な研究協力体制に深く印象づけられました。研究活動に加えて、仙台での生活を楽しんでいます。例えば、とても緑豊かで美しく伝統的な市街には多くの寺社や庭園、美しい自然の風景やお祭りそして落ち着いた日常があります。私は間もなく日本を離れますが、きっと私は日本と、特に仙台での日々を忘れがたいものにしてくれた多くの友人たちと別れることを寂しく思うことでしょう。全ての皆様と指導研究員に感謝したく思います。そして将来に渡って協力し、再会できることを希望します。今、仙台は桜の季節ですので、友人たちとお花見を楽しみたいと思います。
