The Orogenic Processes Research Group
Outline of the Orogenic Processes Research Group
Research Themes
The Orogenic Processes Research Group conducts geological studies on metamorphic, plutonic, volcanic, and sedimentary rocks, aiming to understand the long-term evolution of island-arc crust. Our research focuses on:
Key Project: Land Geological Map Project
As one of the core groups of the Land Geological Map Project, we produce and compile 1:50,000 and 1:200,000 geological maps of Japan.
1:50,000 Geological Maps
These maps are based on original field surveys and research, representing regional geological histories through geological maps and cross sections. Each map is accompanied by a detailed explanatory booklet.
1:200,000 Geological Maps
These maps are compiled mainly from existing datasets, supplemented with new fieldwork and research. They provide regional to nationwide syntheses of Japan’s geology and are periodically updated to incorporate advances in geological research.
