GERAS

To quantitatively evaluate the potential risk associated with different kinds of contaminants, such as heavy metals, VOCs, mineral oils and agricultural chemicals, and a variety of environmental problems, such as soil and groundwater pollution, landfill of hazardous wastes and geological storage of CO2, etc., a comprehensive software package entitled Geo-Environmental Risk Assessment System: GERAS has been developed and continuously improved. Basically, 3 versions are available, according to the purposes of application.

GERAS-1 consists of conceptual models for risk assessment, and can be used for preliminary or screening assessment.

GERAS-2 combines 2-dimentional mass transport simulation together with quantitative risk assessment. This version can be used for site specific assessment.

GERAS-1 and GERAS-2 are included in a single CD-ROM and are available upon request.

GERAS-3 combines 3-dimensional, multicomponent, multiphase mass transport simulation together with quantitative risk assessment. To facilitate different applications, GERAS-3 has 3 versions as follows (note that most link sites are in Japanese only):
