In 2015, AIST established the “Adhesion and Interface Phenomena Research Laboratory.” By involving various in-house researchers, we conduct joint research to address diverse national projects and corporate needs/challenges related to a wide range of adhesive technologies. This includes not only structural adhesive technologies for automobiles and aircraft, but also electronics, infrastructure, precision bonding, research DX, and international standardization.
Furthermore, in 2016, we established the AIST Consortium “Adhesion and Joining Technology Consortium.” Through discussions on diverse societal challenges, we promote the development of research projects concerning adhesives and adhesives with a wide range of functionalities.
One such initiative is the multi-institutional joint research group “Adhesion and Joining Fundamental Technology Joint Research Group.” Starting with the Thermal Stress and Deformation Research Project, it has expanded into precision bonding technology, data-driven approaches, and currently advises on the Life Prediction Research Project.
Moving forward, we will also tackle new research areas such as easily separable adhesive technologies from the perspectives of SDGs, carbon neutrality, and the circular economy. Through study meetings, tours, exhibitions, and symposiums, we aim to appropriately disseminate research outcomes to foster collaboration and contribute to society.
