Situation of recovery as of Jan. 21, 2013

We at length standards section express deep condolences to those victimized by off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake. We hope for the fast recovery of the affected area.

Worldwide sympathy from our friends is most sincerely appreciated.


Facilities and equipments of NMIJ were restored. The air conditioning system of laboratories was also restored.

However, part of calibration services and research activities have been halted because of relocation of laboratories as part of reconstruction of activities at AIST. We appreciate your cooperation.

We are going to recover the contribution to the industry via the calibration services, research activities, and industry-academia-government collaborations.

The situation of recovery as of Apr. 18, 2012 is described below.

Situation of recovery

  • We resumed calibration service of refractive index on Jan. 21, 2013.
  • Calibration service of line scales was resumed on Apr. 18, 2012.
  • Calibration service of long gauge blocks was resumed on Feb. 22, 2012.
  • Calibration service of digital scale (micro) was resumed on Oct. 6, 2011.
  • Calibration services of gauge blocks and step height were resumed on May 31, 2011.
  • Calibration services of electronic distance meters and laser interferometers were resumed on Apr. 7, 2011.
  • Gas supply and water supply for experiments were restored. Air conditioning systems of experimental rooms were also restored.
  • Part of calibration services and research activities have been halted because of relocation of laboratories as part of reconstruction of activities at AIST.
