Mechanical reliability of structural materials and processing materials
Research Objectives
It is necessary to clarify the strength properties to the reliability evaluation of a structural material and a processing material. Also, the fatigue test that gives the material the cyclic loading to evaluate fatigue strength and measures the displacement is required. Our research group is evaluating mechanical test using the test specimen of the macro and micro order made.
Research Results
It is necessary to use composite materials of lightweight and high rigidity for lightening and low fuel consumption of transport applications. Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) is composite materials that satisfy the demand. In order to optimize the manufacturing and the adhesive structure, it is important to measure the mechanical properties and the lifetime estimation of such materials, and develop its adhesion and joint process. Our research group is researching the dependency for the fiber orientation of the mechanical properties of CFRP composite with the thermoplastic and short carbon fiber in excellent productivity and the recyclability. In the adhesive material of CFRP for the aircraft, it is important to evaluate the interfacial strength without the defective structure such as weak bond or kissing bond. Then, micro-size test specimen is fabricated by the FIB, the interfacial strength, and it works on the clarification of the adhesive mechanisms.
