Our Commitment to Collaboration
In AIST, under the vision “Create the Future, Collaborate Together,” we work with industry partners to address societal challenges and co-create new values. Department of Life Science and Biotechnology is engaged in research and development with a strong focus on social implementation, built on three core pillars: Next-Generation Medical Infrastructure, Advanced Utilization of Biological Resources, and Advanced Bio-Analytical Technologies. In particular, we see strong potential in the healthcare and biomanufacturing fields, where we believe the following strengths position AIST effectively:
Our Strengths in the Healthcare Field
- Proprietary measurement indicators for monitoring health conditions
- A diverse range of measurement technologies that evaluate health status through multifaceted approaches
- On-site facilities capable of prototyping devices for demonstration and validation
- Interdisciplinary teams of researchers spanning wet-lab measurements to device development
Strengths in the Biomanufacturing Field
- One of Japan’s largest research talent pools in the field, enabling research using diverse biological hosts
- Establishment of data-driven analytical methods and production of enzymes and functional molecules using plant and microbial cells
- Technologies that maximize and optimize the innate production capacities of cells
- Integrated approaches combining expertise across different disciplines, including genetic engineering and information science
AIST promotes research and development through a backcasting approach, working from the perspective of social challenges and ensuring that research outcomes are seamlessly connected to social implementation.
To strengthen this process, AIST established AIST Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary, in April 2023 under the Act on Strengthening Research and Development Capability for Technological Innovation.
AIST Solutions serves as a collaborative gateway, bringing together the combined strengths of the seven AIST research domains including Department of Life Science and Biotechnology to co-create new value with private-sector partners by offering diverse collaboration programs.
Furthermore, once joint research begins, AIST Solutions provides management and support to advance the social implementation of its outcomes.
We hope you will consider engaging in collaboration that leverages the full capabilities of the AIST Group.
