●Chemical
Substance Safety Management Technology (AIST, National Institute
of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology - Middle Range Project from
Fiscal Year 2001 to 2004) |
|
Based on the available toxicology and epidemiology data, develop
formulae of dose-response relationship applicable in risk assessment
of chemical substances subjected to PRTR (Pollutant Release
and Transfer Register) as a part of methods in quantitative
risk assessment of human health and ecological hazard. Based
on the available toxicology and epidemiology data, develop formulae
of dose-response relationship applicable in risk assessment
of pesticides with large amounts of releases to surface water
systems. |

Research and Development on Generation and Exposure
Mechanisms of Hazardous ChemicalSubstances, and Reduction
of Environmental Burden (Fundamental Research and Development
Project for Industrial Technology from Fiscal Year 2000
to 2004) |
|
|
For the purpose of investigating mechanisms for generation and
exposure of chemical substances, conduct studies in multi-component
sensors as simple measurement technology as well as to develop
techniques and methodologies using these sensors in monitoring
of chemical sources and exposure assessment.

Research in Social Acceptability of Technologies -
Toward Society to Accept EnvironmentalRisks with Application
of Risk (Benefit) Analysis - (AIST, National Institute
of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology - Priority
Project in Specific Field from Fiscal Year 2003 to 2005)
|
|
|
Conduct risk-benefit analyses of the existing bromated flame-retardants
and new chemical substances as their alternatives to provide
guidance in future development of flame-retardants. |
|
|
|
|
Along with the development of methods for risk assessment
and evaluation of risk management measures, conduct risk assessment
and evaluate risk management measures of selected chemical
substances of importance and urgency and compile risk assessment
documents for public release.

●Chemical
Substance Safety Project (Funded by Ministry of Education, Culture,
Sports, Science and Technology from Fiscal Year 1997 to 2001) |
|
A research project to develop methodologies to predict human
hazards, environmental hazards, and explosive hazards of chemicals
for the purpose of establishing basic knowledge to ensure chemical
safety to humans, organisms and environment. Specifically, studies
were conducted aiming to establish methodologies to predict
hazardous properties of chemical substances based on the known
chemical structures or basic data without conducting additional
experiments. |

●CREST
RMG: Scientific Framework for Chemical Management Based
on Environmental Risk-Benefit Analysis (Funded by CREST, Core Research for
Evolution of Sciences and Technology from Fiscal Year 1995 to 2000) |
|
A research project aimed to establish a scientific framework
for chemical management based on environmental risk-benefit
analysis. With emphasis on the development of evaluation methodologies
for human health and ecological risks with chemicals, interdisciplinary
studies were carried out by the researchers in the fields of
engineering, biology and economics. The project was highly evaluated
within Japan and overseas. Chemosphere Vol. 53, No. 4 featured
the research outcome of the project. |
