Nanomaterial Design Group

The Nanomaterial Design Research Group builds on AIST's extensive expertise and know-how to further advance process, fabrication, and composite technologies using nanocarbons, including CNTs. We are also actively incorporating cutting-edge approaches such as digital transformation (DX)?including multimodal AI and other advanced AI technologies?as well as automated and autonomous experimentation, in order to accelerate the development of novel materials and processes.

Through collaboration with universities, industry, and other research institutions, we aim to bring together complementary strengths and knowledge to create innovative materials and advanced composites, while also pursuing applications and processes that contribute to carbon neutrality and the circular economy. With these efforts, we strive to address diverse societal challenges and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.

Research Themes (main people in charge)

1. Smart Materials & Processes with Multimodal AI (Muroga, Kimura, Kaneko, Minemawari, Matsumoto)

2. Faster Materials Development with Autonomous Experimentation (Muroga, Kimura, Kaneko)

3. New Applications of Nanocarbon Materials (Kimura, Shimizu, Matsumoto)

4. Innovative Materials & Processes through Interdisciplinary Fusion (Shimizu, Matsumoto)
