- G-EVER Promotion Team (g-ever-ml@aist.go.jp)
- Purpose:
- The 1st G-EVER International symposium will be held on March 11, 2013, the second anniversary of the devastating 2011 earthquake off the Pacific coast of Tohoku, Japan. After the Tohoku earthquake, large number of efforts for the prevention and reduction of the risks of natural disasters have been made all over the world. In February 2012, the 1st workshop of Asia-Pacific Region Global Earthquake and Volcanic Eruption Risk Management (G-EVER1) was held in AIST. The G-EVER1 Accord, which was endorsed in the workshop, includes the following commitments:
- Establishment of a framework for cooperation of research institutes and related organizations in the Asia-Pacific region working on seismic and volcanic disaster prevention
- Enhancement of exchange and sharing of various information on seismic and volcanic disaster prevention
- Building the international standard for the database, data exchange and disaster risk assessment
- The Symposium aims to encourage extensive discussions on the present situation and future challenges of natural disaster mitigation in the Asia and Pacific regions, as well as the prospects for the coming decade. Through this, a clear direction for possible mitigation measures to reduce the risks of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions could be determined.
