Project1:Molecular technology to manipulate cell culture

We have developed new elemental technologies to manipulate cell cultures using photoresponsive polymers, fluorinated lipids, membrane proteins and RNA vectors capable of stable and persistent gene expression.

Project2:Production and analysis of glycoproteins

We have developed new technologies to analyze huge glycoproteins, to mass-produce glycoproteins using newly established yeasts, and to functionalize proteins via glycosylation to enhance their stability and activity in living systems.

Researcher:Masahiko Imashimizu

Highly accurate biomolecular functions, such as copying DNA molecular information, consists of biomolecular-water interactions, each of which is too weak to overcome thermal motions. Therefore, those interactions must behave collectively to express their functions, yet the mechanism remains largely unknown. We are challenging this open question by using sub-THz waves, whose period corresponds to the timescale of coupled biomolecular-water dynamics, in combination with spectroscopic and biochemical techniques.

Project4:Molecular technology to manipulate cells : Biomaterials for cell membrane modification

We found that it is possible to modify cells and organs with biocompatible amphiphilic polymers, which enabled us to manipulate and protect cells. With this technique, we also work with liposomes and exosomes for biomedical applications.
