Group Leader:HIROHUCHI, Takahiro
The Continuum Computing Architecture Research Group conducts research on core ultra-distributed computing technologies spanning from the edge to the cloud. Specifically, the group focuses on: (1) foundational technologies that leverage edge computing to enhance the intelligence and performance of applications, and (2) cloud infrastructure technologies that work in tandem with edge systems to deliver massive AI computation and data processing capabilities. Through these efforts, the group aims to contribute to the realization of diverse digital services required in real-world society.
Continuum Computing Trustworthiness Research Group
Group Leader:KAWAMOTO, Yusuke
The Continuum Computing Trustworthiness Research Group is engaged in research on software infrastructure technologies to enhance, evaluate, and ensure the reliability of key components in digital environments, including: (1) ultra-distributed networks, (2) machine learning systems, and (3) software operating under uncertainty.
Geoinformation Service Research Group
Group Leader:KOUYAMA, Toru
The Geospatial Services Research Group is engaged in the development of core technologies and applied systems for realizing digital twins, which involve copying the vast and diverse geospatial information generated in the physical world into cyberspace in real time. These technologies serve as essential tools for predicting and controlling real-world phenomena through big data analytics and large-scale simulations.
Data Platform Research Group
Group Leader:MATONO, Akiyoshi
The Data Platform Research Group aims to realize a scalable AI data platform capable of collecting, storing, managing, and utilizing diverse big data generated from real-world objects, people, and events. In particular, the group is engaged in research and development of data governance infrastructure technologies to efficiently collect and store high-precision, high-frequency IoT-generated data, thereby promoting its effective utilization.
Future Core Digital Technology Cooperative Research Laboratory
Laboratory Leader:ARAI, Hisatomo
The Future Core Digital Technology Cooperative Research Laboratory, established through a partnership between SoftBank Corp. and AIST (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology), is working toward the realization of a Society 5.0 society. Our goal is to build a spatial information platform (digital twin) that seamlessly integrates cyberspace and physical space, and to develop technologies for real-time updates of spatial data. In parallel, we are also collaborating with players in fields such as autonomous mobility and XR (extended reality) technologies to help create a smarter, more connected society.
