AIST and IonQ has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of a truly scalable trapped-ion quantum computing solution in collaboration with Japan’s quantum ecosystem.

On April 14, 2025, the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IonQ to strengthen their collaboration towards the industrialization of quantum technology. To foster a robust and international quantum ecosystem, AIST and IonQ will explore new research and development possibilities using IonQ’s Forte quantum computer, and to make quantum computing accessible to researchers, enterprises and institutions both in Japan and globally. The collaboration also aims to contribute to the growth of Japan’s international quantum ecosystem, strengthening its position as a global leader in quantum technology.

Strengthening the collaboration between the two institutions is expected to lead to new technological developments and market creation in the continuing acceleration of the industrialization of quantum technology.
