Promoting Life Technologies
AIST Tokyo Waterfront is one of the research bases
of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology
(AIST), which was established in 2001 at the Tokyo Academic Park in Waterfront,
simultaneously with the reorganization of the AIST itself as an independent
administrative institution.
Excellent researchers gather here from Japan and
abroad, and conduct innovative researches covering a wide spectrum from
basic to industrial aspects, with the advanced new experimental equipments
and various research databases. In particular, we promote ‘Life technologies’
corresponding to researches related to life science, men and social systems.
Cutting-edge R&Ds focusing on fusion of bio and information technologies
are conducted, such as bioinformatics, post-genome sequence, digitization
of human functions and behaviors, interaction of information systems between
men and social systems, etc.
We also promote public-private-partnership as well
as national projects. An R&D of fuel cell towards the goal set according
to a roadmap is one of the examples. Located in Tokyo, various collaborations,
technology transfer, fostering of young researchers, outreach activities,
etc. are performed proactively.
AIST Tokyo Waterfront, through these activities,
will continue to contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of industries
as well as creation of new industries, under the spirit of the AIST charter;
‘Full Research in Society, for Society’.
