1. Access to Sendai
Main Campus of Tohoku University is located in Sendai. Sendai is the largest city and the center of Tohoku district. It is about 350 kilometers north of Tokyo, a less than two-hour bullet train ride from the metropolis.

Airlines
Sendai Airport is located in Iwanuma, about 15 km south of Sendai. You can take the railway (Sendai Airport Line) to JR Sendai Station from the airport. The railway fare is 630 yen (as of 2009). There are domestic flights from main cities in Japan (Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka, Okinawa and others). International air services are available from Seoul (Korea), Guam, and various location in China (Shanghai, Dalian, Beijing and Changchun).

Transportation
BUS
Buses leaves the bus terminal at the JR Sendai Station (bus stop No. 9) every 30 minutes for the 20-minutes trip to the "Kogakubu-chuo" bus stop in front of the School of Engineering. The fare from the station to the "Kogakubu-chuo" bus stop is 220 yen (as of 2009), paid when leaving the bus.

TAXI
You may take a taxi to the School of Engineering from Sendai Airport or Sendai Station. Fares are about 6,000 yen from Sendai Airport and 1,600 yen from Sendai Station. Taxi can be found at the taxi stands in front of Sendai Airport or Sendai Station.
