概要

This report summarizes the accumulation profiles of PCDD/Fs and coplanar-PCBs (Co-PCBs) in aquatic biota (e.g., plankton, shellfish, benthic invertebrate, and fish) from Tokyo Bay and the relationship between bioaccumulation and trophic level in the food chain determined using stable nitrogen isotope analysis. 

Bioaccumulation patterns of PCDD/Fs and Co-PCBs varied greatly among congeners. Accumulation patterns of PCDDs/DFs and Co-PCBs are not solely explained by their physiochemical properties. 

The relationship between water solubility for 2,3,7,8-substituted PCDDs/DFs and Co-PCBs and their bioaccumulation potentials imply that water solubility play an important role in determining bioaccumulation levels in fish. 

Understanding the accumulation properties of PCDDs/DFs and Co-PCBs would provide a scientific basis to determine the environmental quality criteria of PCDDs/DFs and Co-PCBs.
