Abstract

It is reported that ultrafine TiO2 particles induce apoptosis via oxidative stress in culture cells and its oxidative damage depends on the primary particle size (Gurr et al. 2005). It is also reported that ultrafine TiO2 particles are unstable and tend to form secondary particles in the culture medium, which are different from primary particles, by agglomeration (Sayes et al. 2006, Xia et al. 2006). However, there is little report which describes secondary particle size and its effects on the biological response in cultured cell system.
