Dr. Rolf Kumme
Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB)
Rolf Kumme, who was born in Verden (Aller), Germany in 1959, is a physicist at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig (Germany), where he leads the Solid Mechanics Department.
He received his “Diplom” (master´s degree equivalent) in physics from the University of Hannover in 1986 and his Ph.D. from the Technische Universität Braunschweig in 1996.
His professional career started in 1987 at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Braunschweig, as a scientist in the force laboratory. His research work in the field of dynamic force measurement was also the topic of his Ph.D. work in mechanical engineering. He was head of two Working Groups at PTB “Periodical Force” from 2003 to 2008 and “Realization of Force” from 2004 to 2015, and has been head of the Solid Mechanics Department since 2007.
He is a member and the chair of the Working Group “Force and Torque” of the Consultative Committee for Mass and Related Quantities (CCM) of the International Committee of Weights and Measures (CIPM), and of the Technical Committee 3, “Force, Mass and Torque”, of the International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO).
Within his research fields in force and torque, he has published and presented over 100 papers.
