Keynote speaker

Dr. Rolf Kumme

Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB)

Rolf Kumme, who was born in Verden (Aller), Germany in 1959, is a physicist at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig (Germany), where he leads the Solid Mechanics Department.
He received his “Diplom” (master´s degree equivalent) in physics from the University of Hannover in 1986 and his Ph.D. from the Technische Universität Braunschweig in 1996.
His professional career started in 1987 at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Braunschweig, as a scientist in the force laboratory. His research work in the field of dynamic force measurement was also the topic of his Ph.D. work in mechanical engineering. He was head of two Working Groups at PTB “Periodical Force” from 2003 to 2008 and “Realization of Force” from 2004 to 2015, and has been head of the Solid Mechanics Department since 2007.
He is a member and the chair of the Working Group “Force and Torque” of the Consultative Committee for Mass and Related Quantities (CCM) of the International Committee of Weights and Measures (CIPM), and of the Technical Committee 3, “Force, Mass and Torque”, of the International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO).
Within his research fields in force and torque, he has published and presented over 100 papers.

Keynote speaker

Dr. Kenichi Fujii

National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ)

Kenichi Fujii is the Prime Senior Researcher of the National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ). He received the Ph.D. degree from the Keio University in 1998.
His professional career started at the National Research Laboratory of Metrology (NRLM) in 1984. He developed a solid density standard and an optical interferometer to measure the diameters of silicon spheres for the Avogadro project at NRLM. From 1994 to 1996, he contributed to develop a watt balance as a Guest Researcher of NIST. In 2004, he started the International Avogadro Coordination (IAC) Project as a Coordinator, where an isotopically enriched silicon crystal was successfully evaluated to change the present redefinition of the kilogram. He is also a Project Leader of the very small mass, force and torque measurements at NMIJ.
From 2015 to 2017, he was the Leader of the Mass Standards Group of NMJ. He serves as the delegates of the Consultative Committee for Mass and Related Quantities (CCM) and of the Consultative Committee for Units (CCU). He is also the member of the CODATA Task Group on Fundamental Constants.

Technical Session

Twenty (20) minutes will be given for oral presentation time, including five minutes for discussion. A laptop computer running Windows 10 for the presentation will be prepared for oral presentation. Please ensure that the overhead transparencies projector will not be available. Accordingly, the presenters are requested to prepare their presentation electronically using Microsoft Power Point (MS Power Point 2010 or higher version) and upload the presentation files prior to the technical session. Please do not plan to use your own laptop for running your presentation to avoid problems with computer-projector compatibility and to save time that would otherwise be needed for changing connection.
