A quantitative, evidence‑based understanding of the state and properties of materials is essential for a safe and secure daily life. MCM’s mission is to establish and disseminate national metrology standards and reference materials, and to develop the chemical measurement, analytical, and evaluation technologies that support them.

Our reference materials include pH and elemental standard solutions, biological and compositional reference materials that are indispensable for ensuring the safety of daily life and food, as well as advanced material reference materials used in the development and production of high‑quality industrial products. These materials are used to calibrate analytical instruments, validate analytical methods, and ensure measurement traceability.

In addition, we maintain and enhance databases and measurement/evaluation techniques that underpin these activities, and we collaborate with domestic and international partners to strengthen traceability and reliability across society.
