The 16th Japan-Taiwan International Workshop on Hydrological and Geochemical Research for Earthquake Prediction was held on 5 - 6 September 2017 in International Conference Hall, Central Weather Bureau, Taipei, Taiwan simultaneously with "the International Workshop of Technology of Earthquake Monitoring and Geophysical Data Analysis Application" sponsered by Central Weather Bureau, Taiwan, the Disaster Prevention Research Center, National Cheng Kung University and Geological Survey of Japan, AIST.

The Japan-Taiwan International Workshop on Hydrological and Geochemical Research for Earthquake Prediction was firstly held in 2002 in Japan based on the international collaborative research project between the Geological Survey of Japan, AIST and the Disaster Prevention Research Center, National Cheng Kung University.

The purpose of the workshop is to provide an opportunity to report and discuss the results of hydrological and geochemical research for earthquake prediction mainly in Taiwan and Japan. Since large earthquakes do not happen frequently in any country alone, international exchange of accumulated knowledge and skills will help to promote advancement of the earthquake prediction research.
