Introduction

Hitachi, Ltd. (Hitachi) and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) established the Hitachi-AIST Circular Economy Cooperative Research Laboratory (H-AIST CE Lab.), a joint research center, in with the aim of realizing a circular economy-based society. As the part of this activity, we are surveying standardization trends related to circular economy, preparing a preliminary standardization ideas, and promoting activities to refine the standardization ideas in collaboration with academia, government, and other companies. The purpose of this symposium is to hold open discussions on “Challenges and the Role of International Standards in the Transition to a Circular Economy” proposed by H-AIST CE Lab. Working Group 3 (WG3 : Team of International Standardization).
