A Layered niobate and a layered titanate could be exfoliated with
tetra-n-butylammonium hydroxide (TBA+OH-). The exfoliated sheets
could be precipitated by addition of cations such as H+ or some kinds
of inorganic fine particles such as MgO. We attempted to apply this
"exfoliation - precipitation" method to synthesis of porous materials.
The obtained porous materials had large surface area and showed
higher photocatalytic activity than the original one for H2 evolution
from various aqueous alcohol solutions.
