4-Carboxy and 4,7-dicarboxy- 1,10-phenanthroline were synthesised and their Ru(II) complexes were explored as photo sensitizers. cis-Dithiocyanatobis( 4,7-dicarboxy- 1,10-phenanthroline)ruthenium(II) exhibited excellent results on crsytalline titanium dioxide electrodes. The incident photo to current conversion efficiency(IPCE) is 70%, the total current under an illumination of AM 1.5 is 13.6mA and open circuit potential is 670mV, yielding solar to electric conversion efficiency of 6.1%.
