Cyclopentadienyl polypyridyl rhodium(III) and iridium(III) complexes
have received considerable attention in recent years as catalysts for
the photochemical water shift reaction and asymmetric reactions.
Recently, we developed the synthetic method for the preparation of
polysubstituted cyclopentadienes from allylidenephosphorane.
By using our procedure, the new rhodium and iridium complexes were synthesized.
Their NMR spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetric behavior were compared with
those of the pentamethylcyclopentadienyl analogue.
In addition, homodinuclear cyclopentadienyl rhodium complexes were synthesized.
The cyclic voltammetric investigations suggested the interaction between the metal centers.
