Synthesis and spectroscopic study of Ru(II)-Os(II) multinuclear complexes connected with ethylene-linked bisphenanthroline

Recently Kasuga et al. of NIMC synthesized Ru(II)-Co(III) and Ru(II)-Ni(II) dinuclear complexes and studied their photcatalytic abilities of CO2 reduction. They reported that the intramolecular systems were as good as the corresponding intermolecular systems under the photoreaction conditions. In conjunction with the photoinduced electron transfer systems, we synthesized Ru(II)-Os(II) multinuclear photoinduced energy transfer systems. The binuclear system was directly prepared as well known and the Ru-Os3 tetranuclear complex was prepared divergently starting from Ru(DMSO)4Cl2 and 3 equiv. of bisphenanthroline. Their UV and emission spectra were determined and compared with those of corresponding mononuclear complexes.
