Integration of Photonic Devices and Molecular Films: A tool for monolayer studies and a platform for integrated optic sensors
Sergio B. Mendes
Optical Sciences Center, University of Arizona

In this talk I will describe how photonic devices can constitute a research tool for studies of molecular array formation and molecule-interface interactions. I will discuss integrated optic structures that provide highly sensitive platforms for probing molecular assemblies in the monolayer and sub-monolayer regimes. In addition the integration of photonic devices with molecular films constitutes a unique structure towards the implementation of highly selective, sensitive, and compact sensors for chemical and biological detection.
