○ Works and Responsibilities
　The basic policies of the Safety and Environmental Protection Department
 　　　The ultimate objective of the activities of the Safety and Environmental Protection Department is, with the close cooperation of the other related offices, to create and secure safe and comfortable research environment by performing and realizing the fundamental philosophy of the activities stated in the Charter of the Environmental Safety of the Independent Administrative Institution, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology.

　　　For this purpose, our task is to arrange or improve the equipments or facilities related to safety and environment positively, and at the same time to establish the guidelines and manuals concerning safety and disseminate the information concerned. Thus, our activities are to imporve and raise the awareness with regard to the environmental protection and safety of all the people working in the Institute.

　Charter of the Environmental Safety of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology 　(Established April 1, 2001, revised February 5, 2004)


 　 We strive to promote research activities that contribute to the global environmental protection and the security of mankind and pursue our work to realize a safe and reliable society of high quality of life harmonious with the environment.

　We promote the dissemination of information related to the environmental protection and make every effort to be in harmony with and coexist with the local community. Naturally, in case of disasters or emergencies, we take prompt and proper measures to deal with the situation.
Furthermore, in conformity with the 'principles of disclosure', we shall endeavor to return the knowledge acquired and accumulated to the society.

　 Promote dissemination of the information related to environmental safety and strive to be in harmony and coexist with the local community.  　Establishment of the safety and health administration system
　Establishment and dissemination of rules, regulations, guidelines, etc.
　Set up and operation of Chemical and Gas Management System
　Equip research buildings with drafts and scrubbers
　Worksite monitoring and inspection
　Obtain ISO14001 certificate
　Take preventive and protective measures against disasters, earthquakes, etc.
