SHFS persistenthome for KNOPPIX

SHFS persistenthome enables us to keep home directory via network.. We can use the home directory from anywhere if the network is reachable. SHFS(SHel l File System) is convenient because server machine isn't required special software. The requirement is "ssh" account only.
SHFS persistnethome is a part of research topic "Nomadic Computing".

Requirement

• Server
  • ssh port(No. 22) is opened.
  • 100MB disk space.
• Client
  • KNOPPIX with "mkpersistenthome_shfs". The iso image (knoppix_20040220-shfs0423.iso) is downloadable.

HowTo Use

The usage is based on our Japanese KNOPPIX. Please boot Japanese KNOPPIX with language option.
For example, "boot: knoppix lang=us".

STEP 1: Make a SHFS-home

STEP 2: Reboot and Mount SHFS-home

  CAUTION: If you enter wrong password, KNOPPIX will boot with RAM DISK for home directory.

STEP3: Shutdown

• Please shutdown normally because SHFS persitenthome must write back to server.
•
