Looking Glass 0.7.1 on KNOPPIX
(OLD HP: "Looking Glass 0.7.0 on KNOPPIX")

We developed a Live Installer of LookingGlass on KNOPPIX4.0.2 using UNIONFS.

Requirement

• Hardware
  • NVIDIA GeForce Video Card
  • 1GB Memory
  • Network Connection (for NVIDIA GeForce Driver Installation).
    • For exmaples, we tested Sun Ultra20, Toshiba Dynabook G8,LX/290.
• Software
  • KNOPPIX 4.0.2 (DVD or CD)
  • 7 files to install Looking Glass. Please follow each instruction and license when you download them. These files have to save same directory. If you have USB memory or other storage, we recommend you to save the files to it.

Installation on Live KNOPPIX

This installation assumes a CD or DVD which is made of knoppix_v4.0.2.

Installation steps

Please boot KNOPPIX 4.0.2 and follow the Installation steps.

• Change directory of the downloaded files.
• [knoppix]$ su
• # sh ld3g071_setup.sh
• Stop the X session and start setup for lg3d? (yes/no) yes
• change vt to 1.
• Install JDK
  • Setup for jdk. hit [Enter] for continue, 'q' for quit: [Enter]
  • License statement.
  • Do you agree to the above licence terms? [yes or no] yes
  • Unpacking & Installing.
• Install JAI
  • Setup for jai. hit [Enter] for continue, 'q' for quit: [Enter]
  • Do you agree to the above licence terms? [yes or no] yes
  • Unpacking & Installing.
• Install Java3D
  • Setup for java3d. hit [Enter] for continue, 'q' for quit: [Enter]
  • Unpacking & Installing.
• Install LG3D
  • Setup for lg3d. hit [Enter] for continue, 'q' for quit: [Enter]
  • Unpacking & Installing.
• Install tcsh
  • Setup for tcsh. hit [Enter] for continue, 'q' for quit: [Enter]
  • Unpacking & Installing.
• Install NVIDIA GeForce Driver
  • Setup for NVIDIA. hit [Enter] for continue, 'q' for quit: [Enter]
  • Select "Accept" or "Do Not Accept"with cursor key (<-, ->) Select "Accept" and [Enter]
  • Download kernel interface from (ftp://download.nvidia.com). Select "Yes" or "No"with cursor key (<-, ->) Select "Yes" and [Enter]
  • No matching precompiled kernel Interface. Compile a kernel interface. Select "OK" and [Enter]
  • Update XF86Config files. Select "OK" and [Enter]
• Start lg3d. hit [Enter]: [Enter]
  • X Windows session terminated and start Looking Glass.
  • We can change background and run some applications.

Problems and Solutions

• Screen Lock
  • if Screen is locked. Looking Glass doesn't reactivate. Please prevent screen lock with the following command.
    • # xset s off
    • # xset -dpms
