Institute for Geo-Resources and Environment (GREEN)

Greeting from Director

Dr. Shinsuke Nakao, GREEN, AIST, Japan
Director

The Institute for Geo-Resources and Environment (GREEN) is one of the research institutes belonging to the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), which was established as an independent organization in 2001 through a major restructuring of the former national agencies.

GREEN aims to serve industry and society by providing reliable scientific information and industrial technology. Our vision is to become the world's premier research center covering a broad spectrum of applied geosciences, dealing with exploring natural resources, protecting geo-environment, and utilizing the geosphere. Our current research topics cover

  • exploration of mineral resources, natural gas resources, and geothermal resources
  • risk assessment of soil contamination and evaluation of groundwater environment
  • geo-scientific evaluation of the geological storage system of high-level radioactive waste and carbon dioxide

GREEN employs the best and the brightest specialists who have a range of qualifications and skills including geology, geochemistry, geophysics, hydrology, rock mechanics, and other resource exploration disciplines. By applying our diverse and integrated scientific knowledge and expertise we are able to understand complex geo-environmental phenomena, natural resource issues and problems; and to provide scientific advice that leads to solutions.

We welcome you to explore the information on this website about doing business with us, partnering with us in our research programs, and being part of the GREEN workforce.
