To attain a sustainable society, limited fossil resources must be utilized efficiently while suppressing global warming. In addition, a stable energy supply is essential for our safe and comfortable life and our country痴 industrial development. The key to meeting these demands is the use of "technology."

The Energy Technology Research Institute (ETRI) of National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), aims to develop key energy technologies in three main areas:

  1. A distributed energy network system that can supply energy with less carbon emission by integrating clean renewable energy sources with conventional electric power, heat and gas energies;
  2. Energy-related devices and materials, such as fuel cells and hydrogen storage materials, that work as key components in the distributed energy network; and
  3. Clean energy technology including clean fuel, solar energy, hydrogen and others.
