Hydrogen is clean fuel generating energy without CO2 emission, and secondary energy exchangeable for electric power which is difficult to store. Out target is to develop technologies for transporting and storing hydrogen safely and efficiently, demanded for the hydrogen economy.
We have been doing R&D of hydrogen storage materials for fuel-cell vehicles. In particular, Ti-based materials used for a high-pressure tank up to 35MPa H2 (driving distance: 500 km), techniques for testing hydrogen storage properties up to 40MPa H2 are being developed. Fundamental research such as structural analysis using advanced techniques is carried out to find new materials and ways for enhancing performance.
