Energy Storage Materials Group

Electric energy storage is an important technology to realize diversification and higher efficiency in energy utilization. Electricity storage devices such as secondary batteries and capacitors are used in hybrid cars and the leveling of electricity supply and demand. Carbon materials have been the subject of attention in recent years as indispensable materials for advanced devices such as lithium batteries and fuel cells, which already play an important part in next generation energy systems. By utilizing nano-structural control and analysis technology that we have built up over the years, we aim to develop high performance carbon electrodes for capacitors, which are anticipated to be key devices for practical application to distributed energy systems in the 21st Century. Moreover, research is also being carried out on developing techniques for production and storage of hydrogen.
