- Toward the establishment of new utilization technologies for hydrocarbon resources -

Research is being carried out into the cleaning, high efficiency conversion, utilization of heavy hydrocarbon resources (coal, heavy oil, etc.). Hypercoal opens up possibilities for directly utilizing coal in gas turbines and diesel engines, binder for cokes, and a source for gasification. To establish an efficient Hypercoal Production Method, we have conducted basic research on selective pulverization for demineralization and solvent de-ashing processes. Also, to accommodate recent trends in the use of heavier crude oils and the demand for lighter, cleaner petrochemical products, we are developing technology (thermal cracking, hydrocracking, etc.); 1) to produce gasoline and diesel oil, etc. from heavy crude oil, and, 2) to design an efficient reaction field for heavy oil treatment by molecular modeling and molecular simulation aided by computer.
