First Japan-China Seminar on Hydrogen Storage Materials

Hydrogen storage materials can store/transport hydrogen safely and efficiently. Therefore, hydrogen storage materials are accepted as a key material to realize the hydrogen economy. In many countries, research and development of hydrogen storage materials have been actively conducted.

At present, there is no realistic method for on board hydrogen storage that can satisfy the demand from car manufacturers and potential customers in volume and weight density of hydrogen, simultaneously. Volume density of hydrogen is 1/3000 of gasoline, therefore to reduce the volume of hydrogen is a great technical challenge. Because hydrogen storage materials can store hydrogen higher volume density than liquid hydrogen, they attract great attention in recent years.

National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) is one of the international centers of research and development of hydrogen storage materials and also contributes scientific and technical progresses of the field greatly. In addition to these activities, AIST plays an important role of a hub to exchange information and to meet people.

AIST plans the "1st Japan-China Seminar on Hydrogen Storage Materials" to take the opportunity of the visit to Japan by Prof. Cheng Hui-Ming, Deputy Director of Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Science who is the leader of hydrogen storage materials in China. Five distinguished scientists from each country will give us talks at the Seminar.

AIST would like to provide opportunities for the researchers of both countries in the field of hydrogen storage materials to exchange information and to communicate each other from new on forth.
