Project ; Diagnosis and Prevention for Mycoplasma-linked diseases

Mycoplasma pneumoniae (M. pneumoniae) is one of the pathogen of community-acquired pneumonia.
But specific and early diagnostic method of M. pneumoniae infection has been not established.
Due to the lack of a cell wall, mycoplasmas are resistant to all beta-lactams, that include Penicillins and Cephalosporins.
And Macrorides, Tetracycrines, and New quinolones are generally effective to mycoplasmas.
We discovered M. pneumoniae specific lipid-antigens and succeeded to synthesize them.
Using these lipid-antigens, we could diagnose the M. pneumoniae infection much more specific and more sensitive than conventional methods.
Because we could quantitatively diagnose Mycoplasma infections, chronic course of the infections could be known.
We would like to reveal the relations bitween Mycoplasma infections and chronic diseases, that include asthma,
chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD), autoimmune diseases, rheumatic diseases, and cenral nervous system disorders (CNS).
Then we could also synthesize Mycoplasma fermentans (M. fermentans) specific lipid-antigens that are pathogens of rheumatoid arthritis etc.
We are developing the system of "Diagnosis and Prevention for Mycoplasma-linked diseases".
And we are trying to discover new drugs for Mycoplasma -linked diseases.
