Distribution of clones to research community launched from world's largest human cDNA library for protein expression, expected to accelerate post-genome sequence research.
BIRC has constructed world's largest, high-quality resource to express human proteins in collaboration with NEDO, JBIC and NITE, and started to distribute the clones to the research community.
For details of this resource, please see our article published in the December issue of
Nature Methods (vol. 5, pp.1011-1017; DOI:10.1038/NMETH.1273)
.
Concept
BIRC aims to promote obtaining archiving and integrating biological knowledge derived from massive genome analyses.
Emphases are laid on areas in which Japan is leading other countries, including tertiary structure analysis of membrane proteins, functional analysis of human full-length cDNAs, ncRNA, chemical biology and bioinformatics.
Greeting from Director
Biomedicinal Information Research Center
Director Dr. Ichio Shimada
The Biomedicinal Information Research Center( BIRC ) has been established in April 2008 in Tokyo Bay Area as a successor institution of Biological Information Research Center.
BIRC is a core place of post-genomic research, analyzing structure and function of gene products, such as proteins, and developing fundamental technologies of drug discovery.
BIRC focuses on post-genome- sequence research, such as analysis of protein-protein interactions using human full-length cDNAs, structural analysis of membrane protein which is the main target in drug discovery, studies of bio-active compounds by means of computational science and using microbial metabolites, to achieve ultimate goal of developing fundamental technologies of drug discovery.
Functional analysis of non-coding RNA is a new research area which is to introduce a paradigm for biomedicinal research field.
Integrated database is compiling annotation data of human full-length cDNAs and the results of interaction studies, and contributes to the life science research by publicizing information on the web.
BIRC will promote strategic joint-research project reflecting industrial needs under collaboration with government, industry, and academia.
